Free IES Creator

008 Free IES Creator

I wanted to created my own weblight. I know we can find IES files from the lighting manufacturer, and it will make sure the lights available in the market. But sometimes we just want to create a nice renderings and don’t really care about the technical stuff.

I did some searching and found this nice little application from RIP 3D. It’s an IES creator. If you want to have fun and create your own IES, maybe you’ll find it useful.

If you never heard about IES (or sometimes they call it weblight) before, you can use it in most visualization/rendering applications. AutoCAD can use it since AutoCAD 2007. Revit can use it, and MicroStation can use it. It can imitate the real world lighting in your rendering. So you would know how your model looks like when you use those lights. Of course if you create your own IES, you will not find the lights in the market. Just to have fun and to get a nice image.
